Treasurer for CBF since 1987
In 1972, after being told about Broomball from his brother, Gary Mastervick, Greg started playing. In the same year, he joined an Edmonton team called the Pacemaker Sound and played his first game at an outdoor rink next to Victoria High School, but due to some memory loss, he cannot remember the score.
Six years later (1978), Greg joined the ABA (Alberta Broomball Association) and started as Communications Director. Eight years later, he stopped playing and decided to coach. His first team was the Edmonton Journal. In 1987, he joined the CBF (Canadian Broomball Federation) as the Treasurer and has held on to that position to this very day. In 1979, Greg became the President of the ABA and now, in 2001, he is still the President.
His career in Broomball has allowed Greg to travel all across the country, participating in National Championships. When Greg and his current team, the Edmonton Eclipse, who are a Mixed team, found out that the third World Championships would be held in Bolzano, Italy, they spent many long months preparing to go. They need to raise an amount of cash to go so they decided to fundraise. Holding parties, running bingos, selling kubasa (Ukrainian meat), and doing various other activities allowed them to raise enough money to travel to Italy. With the support of his family behind him, in 1998 Greg and his team were able to bring home the silver medal, whereas at the last World Championship they brought home the gold. It was a very proud feeling for Greg to be the coach of such a wonderful and loving team. In 2000, they made it to the fourth Worlds and again, came home with the gold, a token to their second place victory in Italy.
For the past several years, Greg’s family: Lindsay – his eldest son, Vanessa – his youngest daughter, Nick – the middle child and his loving wife Violet have supported him all the way and it was with this strength that Greg has managed to continue on.
