Wayne Neigel
2014 - Award of Merit - Calgary Alberta

Wayne was introduced to Broomball 1980 in Yellowknife NWT, played from 1980 to 1984, refereeing as well from 1982 to 1984. He was elected as Secretary of the Yellowknife Broomball Association in 1982.

Wayne first met Greg Mastervick and Brian Gouthreau from Alberta while attending the 1983 National Championship in Cornerbrook, Newfoundland as a voting delegate for the NWT.

While attending the 1984 National Championships in Moncton, New Brunswick as a voting delegate for the NWT, Linsday R. and Wayne presented our proposal for the 1988 Nationals in Yellowknife and it was accepted.

In July 1984 Wayne moved back to St. Albert, Alberta and called Greg Mastervick to find out who to contact in Edmonton to play Broomball. He Played the 1984-1985 season and acted as a host at 1985 Nationals in Leduc.
In June 1985 Wayne was asked Greg Mastervick to run for the ABA Treasurer,at first he declined but said he would consider it and if he attended the AGM would run. He didn’t attend the meeting but that evening Greg phoned and said he hoped he would reconsider and accept as he and Brian Gouthreau nominated him for Treasurer and he was than "railroaded" in. He accepted!

Lethbridge, AB - 1994

In 1992, hemoved to Lethbridge for 4 months and then moved to Medicine Hat AB. He travelled to Lethbridge on Sundays from Medicine Hat, an hour and a half drive one way, to referee.

Since 1985 he has also had the title as Secretary/Treasurer several times and currently holds the position.

On September 28, 2013 he was elected for another 2 year term as Secretary/Treasurer, which will conclude 30 years as a member the ABA Executive.

He has attended all Provincial Championships since 1985.

Wayne is presently living in Medicine Hat AB with my wife Jan who has also worked several ABA Fundraising Casinos in Edmonton.
