Nomination Criteria Description:
Janet is one of the most dedicated individuals in the sport of Broomball.
She played for Parr Line ladies team from 1973 to 1977, but retired from play due to an injury to her knee; however she took on the role as Coach of the Parr Line team from 1977 through to 1995. She guided her team to two (2) Provincial titles during that time period; and they finished 4th in the Nationals in 1995.
She has been presented with Regional Awards as Coach of the Year and Volunteer of the Year through this timeframe. She was on a committee that established Junior Broomball Programs in both Seaforth as well as Central West Region in Ontario in the early 1980’s.
Janet was the Central West Region Secretary on the executive from 1980 until 1990. She was the Chairperson for the Senior Provincial Championships hosted in Seaforth. She was also the Chairperson for the Adult National Qualifier held in Clinton. She was the Central West Region Convenor representing the Region on the Provincial Board of Directors from 1984 to 1990.
Janet has held the role of Provincial Treasurer on the FBAO executive from 1990 to present for a period of over 20 years. She has guided the FBAO from a financial deficit while under the Province’s Sports body to a viable sports association. She has lead by striving for fiscal constraint when needed; but spending on the youth and future of the sport.
Janet Buchanan was inducted into the Ontario Broomball Hall of Fame in 1998.
