Nomination Criteria Description
CANADIAN BROOMBALL FEDERATION - VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION COMMITTEE
My name is Terry Forbes. I am the Chairman of the CBF Volunteer Recognition Committee.
Everyone is able to nominate a worthy volunteer for contribution to Broomball at the National Level.
This is the 20th anniversary of the First National Championship that was held in Calgary in 1977.
The 1st winner of the CBF Volunteer Recognition Award was instrumental in the creation of the CBF & the 1st National Championship.
Mr. Gerald Dion was the individual who contacted a representative from each Province with his dream of forming a National Broomball Federation.
I first spoke to Gerald Dion in 1975.
In 1976, he organized an Invitational Championship in Montreal, where Provincial Champions from across the country first competed.
During the Championship, Mr. Dion hosted a meeting where it was agreed to form the CBF.
Mr. Dion drafted the first constitution and filed the incorporation documents, which were presented at the 1st CBF meeting in Calgary.
Gerald Dion was elected Secretary of the CBF at that meeting and served in that position until 1982.
Mr. Dion also designed the CBF logo that we still use today.
Mr. Dion is out of town on business and last minute flight changes have prevented him from attending tonight.
At this time, I would like to call Mr. Normand Bourdelais to accept the award on his behalf.
